Pendolino Praha-Wien-Graz-Ljubljana-Venezia (Antwort)

Trainitalia has in recent years shown a good record of axing international (day) passenger trains (look into some old timetables).

Even though buisiness strategies may have changed one has to keep in mind that the passenger market changed. The well-developed network between Italy and countries in the North was probably due to italian "guest workers" who settled back, made those countries their home, were able to achieve cars that made long trips possible or profited by lowering plane tickets...
I do not believe that interest in such trains nowadays is as high in former times.

New international trains into Italy at the moment? I don't think so ;)

At the moment the only train heading to eastern Europe and Croatia from Italy is one single night train a day.

Trainitalia has in recent years shown a good record of axing international (day) passenger trains (look into some old timetables).

However, european regulations alow foreign opperators to run international trains in other countries on their own, but if you're familiar with what is happening to the DB-OEBB trains on the Munich-Innsbruch-Verona-Milano/Venezia/Bologna route and a bit into southern european mentality you can guess the results.

All the efforts by Trenitalia have lead the DB-ÖBB services to have become nicknamed "Mystery Trains". It is said they don't make any great profits.

I realy believe there is a marked for such connections, but it is Trenitalia who has to deal with that issue. They do not have intention to provide "normal" long distance services, unless to Sicily or the isles (or let other companies provide these, I suspect at least they want to keep themselves the market open). Trenitalias strategy is to provide fast connections (< 4 hours).

IF this wis true, it would be great news, but the author does not state any resources. Why don't you ask in the forum (Vlaki.info), if you speak the language (I suspect it's in Czech), for resources and tell us the results?

---

Hi,

CD has IMHO less Pendolinos to offer such a service. Perhaps this services could be possible with the RJ-trainsets, but I think this report is a canard ;-)

Pendolino Praha-Wien-Graz-Ljubljana-Venezia (Antwort)

Hi!

In the orignal plan the Pendolino (CD680) was scheduled as a replacement for the EC Berlin-Praha-Wien and there have been some test rides in Germany to get a certification for the German railway network. However, it seems that CD has decided to limit service to Praha-Wien.

I would wonder if the train would be allowed to run on the Italien and Slovenien network even if it should be technical possible.

The original links lacks a source and Google translate is also not very helpful to get information out of it.

Regards,
Johannes
